Club Events across Canada
British Columbia
Boys and Girls Club of Kamloops – The Club will be hosting a Club awareness and donor appreciation event called Connect at the Club.
Okanagan Boys and Girls Clubs – Events are planned at two of the Club’s locations. At the Club’s main location, staff and youth will put their phones away to take part in their afterschool programming. At the Downtown Youth Centre, youth will take part in a BBQ, play games, and take part in art programming. They will also have a “real” social media wall, where they can pin pictures, thoughts and ideas throughout the day.
Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC – Old Navy employees will volunteer at an event at the location in Delta, with Minister Carla Qualtrough invited to attend. At the Kinmount service location, kids will take part in a variety of activities including making friendship bracelets, participating in a foosball tournament, creating junkology crafts, having a paper airplane contest, competing in a jump rope challenge, participating in a slime lab, and playing basketball games in the gym.
Alberta
Boys and Girls Clubs of Bashaw & Area – The Club will be hosting a variety of activities for members including a tumbling class, basketball and outdoor field games.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary – Local politicians and community partners have been invited to a “choose your own adventure” event including crafts, games, reading, and outdoor games and activities. The Calgary Tower will also be lit up in Boys and Girls Clubs green!
Clearwater Boys and Girls Club – Club members will be participating in group games before going on a Friendship Walk with the Rocky Native Friendship Centre. They will also attend a BBQ hosted by the Friendship Centre.
Boys and Girls Club of Cochrane & Area – Staff and youth disconnected from all devices for an hour and played board games, baked banana bread, played table Foosball, and had some down time.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Edmonton – The Club will be unplugging at all 10 Club service sites across the city for a People Powered Hour, where Club leaders will focus on spending time with the kids, playing card games and hosting a board game tournament. They have also planned a Club fitness challenge for kids to participate in around the Club.
Fort McMurray Boys and Girls Club -The Club will be hosting a “Popcorn Picnic” for families during pick-up time, and will also distribute a “Unplug to Connect” package that includes a poster of local parks and trails, a bubble wand, sunblock, and information about the Unplug to Connect initiative.
Boys and Girls Club of Lethbridge & District – For the week of May 28 – June 1, the Club is asking kids to participate in an Unplug-A-Thon. The child with the most unplugged time will receive a small prize at the end of the week. On the evening of June 1 kids, youth and families are invited to Round Table, the local board game café, to play games together.
Boys and Girls Club of St. Paul & District – On the afternoon of Friday June 1st The Boys & Girls Club of St. Paul and District will be taking children into the community to hand out freezies and snacks, to connect with the community and encourage them to unplug and connect with the people around them.
Stettler & District Boys and Girls Club – The Club is holding a free painting session to connect through art with local artist, Russell Thomas.
Boys & Girls Club of Strathcona County – They are asking members to pledge to unplug from tech for at least three hours.
Saskatchewan
Boys and Girls Clubs of Saskatoon – The Club is having various events planned throughout the day to celebrate Unplug to Connect. Leaders at the White Buffalo Youth Lodge Club will be working together to create a grid mural. The Confederation Park Club is hosting a community baseball game in the park. Staff at the Club will be having an unplugged lunch together, before playing team building games and spending some time outside. The preschool group will be taking part in a fun obstacle course with their parents. The Core Neighbourhood Youth Club is holding a cellphone-free yoga class, and Evergreen Before & After is hosting a family & friends soccer game in the park.
Manitoba
Boys and Girls Clubs of Winnipeg Inc. – Staff will collectively participate in a street clean-up, beautifying the area surrounding their office. After the clean-up, they will together for a staff lunch.
Ontario
Albion Boys and Girls Clubs – The Club will be hosting a community Flag Football tournament from 4:30pm-5:30pm — cold water, freezies and snack will be provided!
Boys & Girls Club of Cornwall/SDG – The Club has events planned at several service locations. Members from the General Vanier and Henry Street service locations will come together at the Henry Street location where they will make pancakes together and then play ice breaker games. At the Heritage location, Club members will build a fort in the background and bake muffins together. At the 506 Clubhouse, youth will enjoy a picnic together by the water.
Boys and Girls Club of Durham – Parents, family members, and local politicians are invited to join Club staff and kids for an hour of outdoor games including parachute games, relays, tossing rubber chickens, and more!
Eastview Boys and Girls Club – The Club is hosting a BBQ for all of their members, and will also have a police vs. Club member soccer game, and other outdoor activities for kids to take part in.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Hamilton – Club members will take part in a variety of activities including outdoor ball hockey, yoga, splash activities in the swimming pool, open art studio, and outdoor water games. Healthy snacks will be provided!
Boys and Girls Clubs of Kawartha Lakes – During a 3 hour period in the PA day program the Club is inviting parents and all staff to join the children for some tech-free fun and games.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Kingston & Area – The Club will be holding a youth outdoor basketball game in Market Square – right in the heart of downtown Kingston! MP Mark Gerretsen is hoping to be in attendance, and it will be an opportunity for our youth to be active ,outside and unplugged!
Boys and Girls Club of London – The Club will be hosting a variety of activities for kids, families, and community members. Activities will include outdoor games, crafts, board games, and the Pokémon Club.
Boys and Girls Clubs of North Simcoe – The Club’s afterschool program will head outside for activities and games including kite flying, drawing chalk murals, skipping rope and blowing bubbles.
Boys and Girls Club of Ottawa – MPs, Senators and staffers, will team up with kids from our Ottawa Club for basketball fun on the front lawn of Parliament Hill. Special guest, Hon. Patty Hajdu, Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour will join.
Boys and Girls Club of Peel – The Club will have programs running for different age groups at all of their service locations including basketball, tennis, reading Club, cooking program, games day, and conversation circle.
Boys and Girls Club of Sarnia/Lambton – The kids at the Sarnia Club will host a game night for all of the Club members.
St. Alban’s Boys and Girls Club – Canadian R&B sensation Jully Black will visit our Jane & Finch Boys and Girls Club to connect with kids and members of the community … and give an “unplugged” performance.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Thunder Bay – They are hosting a Soccer Clinic with a local soccer player. They will also be decorating tie-dyed Boys & Girls Club T-Shirts, playing outdoor games, and taking part in a BBQ.
Toronto Kiwanis Boys and Girls Clubs – The Club will turn off their wi-fi at 4:30 to go outside and enjoy a kickball tournament. The Club’s literacy room will also have activities to encourage members to connect with each other, for example, Unplug to Connect Bingo and pen pal letter writing. To end the day, the Club will raffle off bikes to 3 Club members.
Boys and Girls Club of West Scarborough – All 12 sites across the city will have children, youth, staff and supervisors partaking in a nature walk in local parks and ravines. Participants will also part take in mini nature activities throughout the walk. The staff will end the walk with some stories and a reminder for children to unplug for an hour at home. The Birchmount location will host a special event with outdoor activities for kids including relay races, obstacle courses, dramatic skits, etc. The Club’s youth staff have organized a community drop in basketball event. All youth between the ages of 12-29 are welcomed to come and join in some recreational, yet competitive, games with their peers from the community. The Youth Council will be going bowling together.
Boys and Girls Club of York Region – The Club will be hosting events at each of their six after school program locations. The Keswick location will spend and hour disconnect and writing letters to friends or family members. At the Newmarket location, kids will take part in an outdoor robotic cars battle. At the Maple location, Club members and staff will spend time outside doing 3D painting and participating in a balloon toss activities. At the East Gwillimbury location, kids will make their own bubbles and bubble wands, and spend time outdoors at a nearby park. At the Georgina Island location, families will join kids at the Club to participate in a scrapbooking activity reflecting on why they love being members at a Boys and Girls Club. And the Woodbridge location is hosting a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for Club members, staff, volunteers, and community members.
Quebec
Dawson Boys and Girls Club – The Club will have multiple events happening for different programs. During their Club BBQ, staff from their youth program will put their cell phones away, and encourage youth to participate. Their after school group will go to the park for the day, and parents/family members are invited to join.
Régional des maisons de jeunes de Québec – At the Esper-Ados Youth Center, teens will go outside and take part in a games tournaments that includes a bean bag toss, and a giant Yahtzee tournament.
Maison Coup De Pouce Trois-Rivieres – They are celebrating the end of year/end of homework support program with a food and fun celebration. They will be offering healthy snacks and playing outdoor games. The local MP will be a guest at the celebration.
New Brunswick
Boys & Girls Club of Charlotte County – The Club is planning outdoor games and activities for their daycare kids, families, staff and board members.
Dieppe Boys and Girls Club Inc. – Parents and kids are invited to play together in a dodge ball game for the whole Club.
Boys and Girls Club of Fredericton – Several group activities are planned throughout the day. The staff will have lunch together offsite to connect. Later in the afternoon all staff, volunteers and kids will come together to help make decorations for the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration. They also have outdoor activities planned for children and youth.
Boys & Girls Club of Moncton – Youth can participate in one of two great activities between 6-8pm on June 1st here at the Club. They can join together to create a chalk mural in front of the Club, or they can build their own birdhouses, ahead of a hike planned for the next day, when the young people will be hanging their houses up!
Boys and Girls Club of Riverview – All of the Club kids will go outside for a BBQ and to play field games together. Staff will also deliver a message about the importance of disconnecting from devices.
The Boys and Girls Club of Saint John Inc. – The Saint John Club will be having a free BBQ for the community from 4-5pm and asking those who attend to sign a pledge to commit to unplugging for one hour. They will also have the playground open and a few “picnic style games”.
Boys & Girls Club of Salisbury – The Club is planning an afternoon full of activities including: a bubble station, slime lab, giant parachute games, potato sack races, ball hockey, basketball games, and a coloring contest. Kids will also make their own snacks.
Nova Scotia
Boys and Girls Clubs of Cape Breton-Whitney Pier -Several events will be happening throughout the day. During lunchtime, Club members will be outside to play sports and draw with chalk. After school, Club members will be taken on an outdoor excursion to a nearby park. The Club will also be hosting a mini amazing race challenge for kids to participate in after school.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Halifax – Kids, their families, and staff at the Greater Halifax Club’s Dartmouth North location will enjoy a pancake breakfast, and then have a chance to shoot some hoops in the gym!
The Boys & Girls Club of Yarmouth – Club staff and youth will be participating in a tacky day where everyone is encouraged to dress outside the fashion norms. The staff have also all agreed to unplug to connect for the entire day – no cell phones, computers or technology of any kind will be used with the exception of the landline. The staff will celebrate together during lunch hour with a BBQ and a few outside games. In the afternoon all three sites are planning outdoor games for the children to participate in together. Parents have been invited to join their children.
Boys and Girls Club of Truro and Colchester – The Club is celebrating Unplug to Connect by unplugging and playing games and activities outside and in the Club gym.
Newfoundland
Gander Boys and Girls Club – They will be hosting a popcorn carnival for all of the members in their after school programs.
James Hornell Boys and Girls Club – The Club will be having a family night, for ages 5 and up with games, music, and delicious healthy snacks.
Wabana Boys and Girls Club – The day will start with a pancake breakfast at the elementary school. After school, the kids will be led in a parade with the RCMP to the Club. At the Club, there will be a number of fun activities with some special visitors in attendance. In the evening they will have a Glow Stick Dance.
PEI
Boys and Girls Club of Charlottetown – The Club will be hosting a family picnic. The price of a hotdog or hamburger is handing in your phone and playing a classic picnic game. The activities will include potato sack races, three legged races, a ball hockey tournament, and a parents vs kids baseball game.
Wellington & Area Boys and Girls Club – The Club is hosting an outdoor campfire fun day with lots of games, crafts, and other outdoor activities.
Boys and Girls Club of Summerside Inc. – The Club will be having a free bike raffle this week. Bikes are on display on Wednesday and Thursday at the Club, and on Friday there will be a BBQ for Club members before the draw takes place. The Summerside Police Department will also be doing a bike safety session with the Club members on Friday.
